Self-Destructing Email Explained
Maya Chen · Privacy Editor, SecureTempMail 5 min read
The defining trait of temporary email is that it disappears. That's the point.
Why auto-deletion is good for you
- Nothing to breach: an inbox that no longer exists can't be dumped in a hack.
- No long-term profile: there's no archive to mine.
- Right-to-be-forgotten by default — see GDPR and disposable email.
How it works
Each inbox carries a time-to-live. A background job permanently removes the inbox and its messages at expiry — no recycle bin, no recovery.
Plan around it
Capture any code or link before the inbox expires. Need more time? Modern services let you extend the TTL with a click.
