Marketing Email vs Spam

Maya Chen · Privacy Editor, SecureTempMail 4 min read

Lumping legitimate marketing in with criminal spam leads to the wrong responses. Here's the distinction.

Legitimate marketing

You (probably) consented, the sender is a real business, and there's a working unsubscribe. The right move: unsubscribe or filter — safely, per this guide.

Spam

Unsolicited, often deceptive, with fake or harmful unsubscribe links. The right move: mark as spam, never click anything.

Prevent both

Use a disposable address for sign-ups so marketing never reaches your real inbox, and your filter handles the rest. Control the address, control the noise.
