How to Send and Receive Email Anonymously
Maya Chen · Privacy Editor, SecureTempMail 7 min read
True anonymity online is hard, but you can get meaningfully close for everyday needs.
Receiving anonymously
A disposable inbox requires no name, no phone, no real address. Combined with a privacy browser, it's an excellent way to receive verification mail without revealing who you are.
Sending anonymously
Sending is trickier — most providers attach metadata. If you must send, use a privacy-focused provider and never include identifying details in the body.
Layer your defenses
- Disposable address for the inbox.
- VPN or Tor for the network layer.
- A browser that resists fingerprinting.
Know the limits
Anonymity is a spectrum. For protecting against marketers and casual tracking, a disposable inbox is plenty. For high-threat scenarios, you need a full operational-security plan.
